DESIRE – DECIDE – DESIGN DESIRE I call them the 3 Ds of drumming success. First you must Desire with emotion and enthusiasm the outcome you most want from your drumming career. What do you want to do on a daily basis? Who do you want to make music with and where? How much financial freedom are you willing to accept and receive? These are all important questions to ponder when beginning the practice of desire. As a self proclaimed stoic, I am well aware of the potential dangers of desire. The possible attachment and let down that comes when expectations are not met. This is something to be conscious of, but not feared. We are material human beings for now, so it is appropriate to desire earthly things and a level of material security, even abundance. It is in my opinion also our responsibility. When you become financially independent, you not only become less of a burden to society, friends, and family, but you also become a channel for creating a better life for others. Dream and desire BIG! There is enough for everyone. The service of music you provide is worthy of reward. Drums free people and sooth the soul. You need to get paid and have a good life to be able to continue to share your gift.
DECIDE Making a solid and committed decision is the next step in creating success in any endeavor. Once you decide, and remove doubt, you can really start the energy ball rolling. You will be hyper focused on your mission, and opportunities that support you will come seemingly out of nowhere. The universe will conspire to help you. This doesn’t mean challenges won’t arise, it means that you will rise above them and continue on until you achieve the Desired results. You may feel tested at times, but each time you persevere through, you will be a giant leap closer to your goal. Allow for things to happen and flow differently than you planned, but always keep your destination in the fore front of your mind. Put this on your vision board, in your wallet, tattooed on your body, and anywhere you will be reminded to do something everyday to work towards your Desire. DESIGN This is the fun, and for many challenging part. You need to be able to go with the flow, but if there is too much ambiguity, you will get lost and attract outcomes that don’t match your true desire. Designing your plan for your drumming career can be a simple list of bullet points outlining different ways you wish to make money playing drums, specific amounts you will earn for each activity, and ways you will attract these gigs. Or you can write out a story that describes your Dream Day. (There is an entire Facebook group dedicated to designing your Dream Day, follow D&G$ to become a member of the group). Writing out your Dream Day makes it easy to really feel and imagine what your life can be like when you create the drum gig that meets your needs, ambitions, and creative demands. I was amazed at how well this worked as soon as I got clear and honest with my true desires. Be detailed in what service you will provide, what you will get in return, and what you will feel like as you become the drummer you envision. Who is with you? What are you playing? Where are you playing? Why are you playing? How much money are you making and what are some ways you invest and use your money? This is more than enough information to start you on the path to a successful and fulfilling drum career.
